Which casting reel should you choose?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod, meaning a reel that will balance the rod, but also one that will allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

The bearings

For a casting reel, the crucial point is the spool's rotation capacity. The smoother the rotation and the lower the rotational resistance, the further you will be able to cast and with lighter lure weights. You therefore need to carefully check the number and quality of bearings the reel has.

The ratio

Another important factor is the retrieval ratio. A standard ratio is 75-80cm of line retrieved per handle turn. You will therefore need to choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you wish to practice.
