Yamashita Egi-oh Search: egi for prospecting
When approaching a spot, the first step is to locate areas frequented by squid. The Yamashita Egi-oh Search range favors an attractive presentation for this prospecting phase. It combines a sound system, the Search Rattle, with a profile designed to produce reflections when worked.
A combination of sound and reflections
The sound system accompanies the egi’s movements. The Strobe Fin and flat sides promote rolling and light reflections. These features allow you to vary the signals presented to squid, especially when they are active.
When working an area, vary your casting directions and the depths you explore. Observe the reactions before changing your action or color: this will help you identify which changes generate interest.
Egi-oh Search or Egi-oh Search Shallow: which version should you choose?
Egi-oh Search: a sink rate suited to active prospecting
The standard version has a relatively fast sink rate, designed to search for squid at a sustained pace. It lets you alternate between working and sinking phases while exploring different water layers.
However, allow an observation period after each action. Fishing actively does not mean working the lure without pauses: monitoring the line remains essential.
Egi-oh Search Shallow: extend the sink
The Egi-oh Search Shallow retains the range’s attractive approach with a slower sink rate. This version extends the presentation in shallow areas or when you want to give the egi more time to sink.
The choice does not depend on depth alone. Current, wind and line tension also influence the lure’s behavior. Compare the exact model specifications before choosing between standard and Shallow.
Which Egi-oh Search size should you choose?
Sizes 3 and 3.5 to build your selection
Sizes 3 and 3.5 provide two starting points to compare according to your equipment and fishing spot. Size 3 offers a more compact presentation; size 3.5 provides a larger egi. Always check the model’s weight and its compatibility with your rod’s casting range.
Size alone does not determine sink rate. A standard Egi-oh Search and an Egi-oh Search Shallow of the same size behave differently.
Size 2.5 for a smaller profile
The 2.5 completes your box when you want to reduce the egi’s profile. It lets you test a smaller presentation without changing lure families. Its value should be assessed at the spot, taking conditions and observed reactions into account.
How do you choose the color of your Egi-oh Search?
Compare the back, sides and luminous effect
The visible color does not fully describe an egi. The back, sides and body technology all contribute to its presentation. Within the range, some colors use Neon Bright, while others feature 490 Glow: check the details for the selected variant.
Neon Bright reacts to UV light. Glow is phosphorescent after exposure to a light source. These effects suit different conditions and should not be confused.
Build a box with complementary colors
To start, compare a natural look, a more visible color and a presentation suited to low-light conditions. The aim is to change contrast rather than simply accumulating similar shades.
Clear or stained water, available light and squid reactions provide clues for adjusting your choice. No color replaces observation: change one parameter at a time to better understand what works in your spot.
Watch the sink carefully to detect bites
After working the lure, get used to recognizing your line’s normal speed and the time needed to reach the bottom. An acceleration, twitch, slackening or stop earlier than expected may indicate a bite.
Wind, waves and contact with the bottom can also affect the line. It is the difference from its usual behavior that should draw your attention. If you notice an anomaly, react without always waiting for a strong pull.
