Yamashita Egi-oh Live: a range designed for working the lure

Working the lure brings your egi to life and triggers a reaction from squid. Yamashita Egi-oh Live models are designed to make lateral movements, known as “darts,” with rod action. Their design facilitates these changes of direction for a dynamic swimming action.

Rather than moving only forward, the egi darts during the retrieve. You can vary the rhythm of rod action, then observe squid reactions during the descent.

Start with a simple, repeatable sequence. Then adjust the intensity or number of movements if necessary, while keeping pauses: multiplying movements is not always the best way to get a bite.

Making room for the descent

After the retrieve, the egi sinks back into the area being fished. This phase deserves as much attention as rod movements. Watch your line and learn to recognize its usual behavior to spot any anomaly.

Avoid immediately starting another retrieve without observing this pause. A squid can take the egi without causing a strong pull.

The standard version for building your selection

The standard Egi-oh Live provides a basis for comparison according to the desired size, weight, and sink rate. The right choice depends on your tackle, depth, and conditions at the spot.

Egi-oh Live Shallow for slowing the presentation

The Egi-oh Live Shallow has a slower descent than the standard version of an equivalent size. It extends the presentation in shallow areas or when you want to give the egi more time to sink.

A Shallow version does not eliminate the need to watch the bottom. Current, line tension, and obstacles also influence how you should fish.

Which Egi-oh Live size should you choose?

Sizes 3 and 3.5: two formats to compare

Sizes 3 and 3.5 allow you to build a selection around two different profiles. Size 3 offers a more compact format, while size 3.5 has a larger silhouette.

Choose according to your rod’s casting-weight range and the egi’s actual weight. Do not confuse size with sink rate: a standard model and a Shallow model of the same size do not behave in the same way.

Smaller sizes to vary the presentation

Sizes 2 and 2.5 complement your selection when you want to offer a smaller egi. They allow you to test another presentation while retaining the Live range approach.

Also adapt your tackle and retrieve to the model used. The goal remains to retain enough control to work the egi and follow its descent.

Which colors should you choose for Egi-oh Live?

Distinguishing visible color from body technology

The range includes colors with different effects. Depending on the version, you may find reflective finishes, UV-reactive bodies, or phosphorescent versions. Two egi with similar outer colors can therefore have distinct characteristics.

Check the color code and its description before choosing. Keimura and Neon Bright technologies react to available UV light, while Glow versions emit light after exposure to a light source.

Favor complementary presentations

To build your tackle box, compare a natural look, a more visible shade, and a presentation intended for low-light conditions. This gives you several options for changing the contrast of your egi.

Water clarity, light, and observed reactions help you fine-tune your selection. Change one parameter at a time: it will be easier to compare two colors if your retrieve rhythm remains similar.

How do you detect a bite during the descent?

After each retrieve, observe the line speed and the usual time needed to reach the bottom. A pull, tremble, early stop, or unusual slack can indicate that a squid has taken the egi.

However, keep a point of comparison: wind, waves, and contact with the bottom also affect the line. It is the change from a normal descent that should catch your attention.
