Yamashita Egi-oh K: refine the presentation during the sink
Working the lure attracts attention, but the sink deserves just as much care. With the Egi-oh K, Yamashita prioritizes lure stability during this phase, particularly to provide a consistent presentation to inactive or wary squid.
The Hydro Fin for stability
Positioned at the rear of the body, the Hydro Fin helps stabilize the egi as it sinks. It helps limit unwanted movements that could disrupt its presentation.
This design does not remove the need to control your line. After working the lure, avoid unintentional rod-tip movements and observe how the egi pulls the line. Wind, waves and current must still be taken into account.
A complementary approach to other Egi-oh models
The Egi-oh K lets you vary your approach when you want to prioritize the sinking phase. It complements a selection that includes models more focused on attractive prospecting or lateral movement when worked.
At the same spot, compare reactions without changing every parameter at once. You will more easily understand the value of a different presentation by initially keeping a similar size and color.
Egi-oh K standard, Shallow or Super Shallow?
The standard version: a first reference point
The standard Egi-oh K provides a basis for comparing the other versions. Choose its size according to your equipment and check the sink rate shown on the model page.
The time needed to reach the fishing zone also depends on conditions. A value stated in seconds per meter is a comparison guide, not an exact timer applicable to every cast.
Egi-oh K Shallow: slow the sink
The Shallow version, identified by the letter S, sinks more slowly than the standard model of an equivalent size. It extends the presentation, especially in shallow areas or when you want to give the egi more time to sink.
Always watch for obstacles and contact with the bottom. A slower sink does not eliminate the risk of snagging.
Egi-oh K Super Shallow: extend the presentation further
The Super Shallow version, identified by the letters SS, offers an even slower sink rate. It provides another option for exploring shallow water or working a prolonged presentation.
It is not always the best choice when conditions make line control difficult. Compare the versions according to the spot rather than considering the slowest sink rate the most effective in every situation.
Which Egi-oh K size should you choose?
Sizes 3 and 3.5 to build your selection
Sizes 3 and 3.5 allow you to compare two presentation profiles. Size 3 offers a more compact format; size 3.5 provides a larger profile.
Check the weight of the chosen model and its compatibility with your rod. Size does not replace other characteristics: a standard K and a K Super Shallow of the same size do not behave the same way.
Sizes 2.5 and 4 to complete your box
The 2.5 reduces the profile presented, while the 4 offers a larger format. These sizes complete your selection when you want to test another profile.
Choose them according to conditions, your equipment and observed reactions. A larger size alone does not guarantee that you will select larger squid.
How do you choose colors for your Egi-oh K?
Look beyond the back color
A color combines several elements: the outer shade, underlayer reflections and, depending on the variant, a particular luminous effect. Two visually similar egi can therefore offer different presentations.
Check the color code and its description. Do not assume that all colors available in a size or version have the same characteristics.
Build a complementary selection
To start, compare a natural look, a more contrasting presentation and a luminous effect suited to the conditions. This lets you change the signal presented without systematically changing ranges.
Water clarity, light conditions and squid reactions provide clues for adjusting your choice. Keep a comparable fishing pace when testing another color.
Watch the line after each action
During the sink, try to recognize your line’s usual behavior. A pull, twitch, sudden slackening or stop before the expected bottom contact may indicate a bite.
Not every bite results in strong tension in the rod. Observing small differences helps you react while gradually distinguishing the effects of wind, waves and the bottom.
