Yamashita Egi-oh Egido rods: equipment dedicated to eging
An eging rod must support several fishing phases: casting the egi, imparting action, following its descent and absorbing pulls during the fight. Its choice therefore depends as much on the lures used as on the comfort sought over repeated casts.
The Yamashita Egi-oh Egido rods available at Ardent Pêche meet this need with two models: the EI 83 ML and EI 86 M. To choose between them, first look at the egi sizes in your box.
Which Yamashita rod should you choose?
Egi-oh Egido EI 83 ML: for size 2.0 to 3.5 egi
The EI 83 ML measures 2.52 m and consists of two sections. Its stated range covers size 2.0 to 3.5 egi, with a rated casting weight of 6 to 24 g.
It is an option for a selection including small and medium sizes. If you regularly alternate between several sizes up to 3.5, compare the actual weight of your lures with this range before making your choice.
Egi-oh Egido EI 86 M: for size 2.5 to 4.0 egi
The EI 86 M measures 2.59 m, has two sections and accommodates size 2.5 to 4.0 egi. It covers a selection ranging from intermediate sizes to larger egi.
If your box focuses on sizes 3 and 3.5, with regular use of 4.0, its operating range deserves your attention. Always check the compatibility of the exact egi model used, especially when it has specific weighting.
Comparing your lures rather than relying on the ML or M rating alone
The power ratings help position the two models, but do not replace examining their specifications. Two egi of the same size can have different weights and actions.
Start with the lures you use most often. A rod suited to your usual selection will be more appropriate than a model chosen solely to cover occasional use.
A design intended for eging action
Fuji K-Series guides
Both Egi-oh Egido rods are fitted with double-foot Fuji K-Series guides, designed for use with fine braid. Their design supports the sharp, fast movements typical of certain eging sequences.
However, adapt your movements to the lure and the reactions observed. Precise action can also be short and measured: the amplitude does not always need to be maximum.
Balancing the setup with the reel
Comfort does not depend on the rod alone. The reel, hand position and overall balance also affect fatigue during a session.
When choosing your equipment, assess how easily you can work and then hold the rod still. This transition is important for maintaining reference points during the descent.
How do you match your rod to your Yamashita egi?
Choosing according to the exact model’s size and weight
To use your Egi-oh Search, Live, K or F, check the specifications of the selected size and version. Also check any accessories added to the rig.
A compatible size indication is not enough to validate every variation of a lure. Total weight and usage recommendations remain the first criteria to check.
Maintaining control during pauses
After a series of movements, hold your rod steady and watch the line. Try to recognize its usual behaviour before interpreting tension or slackness as a bite.
Detection relies both on feel through the hand and observation of the line. Even with a sensitive rod, wind, current and overly slack line can make bites harder to read.
Using and maintaining your eging rod properly
Following pulls during the fight
After setting the hook, maintain steady tension and let the drag absorb the runs. Avoid sudden movements and prepare a landing solution suited to the height of your fishing position.
For a large catch, use a landing net rather than lifting it with the rod. This limits stress on the equipment and the risk of the fish coming unhooked.
Checking the guides and ferrules
After a trip at sea, gently rinse your equipment with fresh water and let it dry before storing it. Regularly check the guides, wraps and cleanliness of the ferrules.
Before fishing, make sure the two sections are correctly assembled and aligned. These simple checks contribute to the proper operation of your setup.
