Which casting reel should you choose?
Rod balance
Choose a reel suited to your rod — that is, a reel that will balance the rod, but also one that will allow you to cast the lures intended for your rod's power rating.
Bearings
For a casting reel, the crucial point is the spool's rotation capacity. The smoother the rotation and the lower the rotational resistance, the farther you will be able to cast and with lighter lure weights. You should therefore pay close attention to the number and quality of the bearings in the reel.
Gear ratio
Another important point is the retrieve ratio. A standard ratio provides 75–80 cm of line retrieved per handle turn. You should therefore choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you want to use.
