The Bariki Shad was created to produce significant vibrations regardless of the retrieve speed. It is indeed capable of swimming at very low speed as well as at a sustained pace. A vertical slot in the tail allows the addition of a small-diameter weighted insert to further amplify the vibrations produced by the lure. This slot can also be used for the insertion of a rattle (bead chamber) allowing a high-frequency sound to be combined with the lure's movement. Its dense material containing salt crystals and loaded with attractant makes it a fairly solid lure despite its soft rubber. This lure can be used just as well on a jig head as on a Texas hook size 5/0 (a ventral slot and a dorsal one facilitate the rigging of this type of hook). Note a small extra thickness of material on the back of the lure which helps protect the tip of a Texas hook from snags and suspended matter.
