The Bariki Shad was created to produce significant vibrations regardless of the retrieve speed. It is indeed capable of swimming at very low speed as well as at a sustained pace. A vertical slot in the tail allows the addition of a small-diameter weighted insert to further amplify the vibrations produced by the lure. This slot can also be used for inserting a rattle (bead chamber) to associate a high-frequency sound with the lure's movement. Its dense material containing salt crystals and loaded with attractant makes it a fairly solid lure despite its soft compound. This lure can be used just as well on a jig head as on a 5/0 Texas hook (a ventral slit and a dorsal slit facilitate the mounting of this type of hook). A slight extra thickness of material on the back of the lure protects the point of a Texas hook from snags and suspended matter.
