Which spinning reel to choose?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod — one that will balance the rod, but also allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

Spool diameter

For a spinning reel, the spool diameter is an important factor — it must match the size and position of the rod's first guide. The larger the first guide, the larger the spool diameter should be. The further the first guide is from the reel seat, the larger the reel should be.

The gear ratio

Another important point is the retrieve ratio. A standard ratio is 75-80cm of retrieve per crank. You will therefore need to choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you wish to use.
