Which casting reel to choose?

Rod balance

Choose a reel suited to your rod, meaning a reel that will balance the rod but also allow you to cast the lures intended for the rod's power rating.

The bearings

For a casting reel, the crucial point is the spool's rotation capacity. The smoother the rotation and the lower the resistance to rotation, the further you can cast and the lighter the lure weights you can use. It is therefore important to pay close attention to the number and quality of the bearings in the reel.

The gear ratio

Another important point is the retrieve ratio. A standard ratio delivers 75-80 cm of line retrieve per handle turn. You should therefore choose your reel's ratio based on the fishing techniques you wish to use.

If you have any questions about choosing a rod, the rigs best suited to your fishing area, or the type of line (braid, monofilament, fluorocarbon) to spool onto your reel, do not hesitate to contact us via our website, by phone or by visiting us in person at our Ardent Pêche store.
